Leveraging the city’s strong AI, Media and Computer Vision skillset, Margalit Startup City Jerusalem brings together the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Bezalel Academy of Art, corporations such as Intel, Cisco, AXA and TESCO, the municipality, and the highly diverse human fabric, to identity leading opportunities and scale future market leaders.

The Play startups are exposed to the global market, premium clients, and potential business partnerships, as well as gain the ability to identify issues and meet market needs.

A community does not exist with culture. In a a complex city like Jerusalem, music and art heals wounds while serving as a bridge between people of different backgrounds. We established the Lab, a unique compound dedicated to local culture. The Lab ultimately became Zappa, a music lab and nightclub that hosts top musicians and performers, and the Sadna Culinary Workshop, which utilizes Middle Eastern flavors to create innovative cuisine. The space has become a vibrant urban center, bringing together different parts of the city to create a diverse ecosystem

The Margalit Startup City in Jerusalem was our first center of excellence, located in an historic complex known as “The Mint,” which served as a currency printing house and storage for official documents during the British Mandate period.
With over 200 dynamic entrepreneurs in the Business, Social and Cultural enterprises, our center houses start-ups, VC fund JVP, Our Crowd incubator- Labs/02, the performing arts hub – “Zappa Jerusalem in The Lab,” the social profit organization Bakehila, as well as a restaurant and a nightclub.

Founded in 2002 by Erel and Debbie Margalit, Bakehila’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty in underprivileged communities by promoting social and educational advancement of youth.
Today, Bakehila is cultivating the next crop of Israel’s leaders and entrepreneurs. By combining economic development with social change, we invite people from different backgrounds to be part of our community and the next generation of Israel’s innovation society.
