Empowering The Next Generation of Israeli Entrepreneurs
Founded in 2002 by Erel and Debbie Margalit, Bakehila’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty in underprivileged communities by promoting social and educational advancement of youth
in Jewish and Arab communities.

Today, Bakehila is cultivating the next crop of Israel’s leaders and entrepreneurs. By combining economic development with social change, we invite people from different backgrounds to be part of our community and the next generation of Israel’s innovation society.

To date, Bakehila has reached over 55,000 children and led 6 “social exits” that have reduced inequality around the country. Activities are implemented by a cadre of Year of Service fellows – young adults who defer their army service to dedicate a year to volunteering in the community.

Margalit Startup City Galil operates unique programs at most of the schools in Kiryat Shmona and the Upper Galilee aimed at promoting excellence and entrepreneurship in FoodTech. Every week, the center hosts local schools in a bid to prepare them for national contests and to connect them to leading Israeli FoodTech companies who provide mentoring and entrepreneur skills, in addition to the scientific development that they receive at school.
